Selendang Saudah

Selendang Saudah or Saudah Shawl/Shayla
is basically the long rectangular scarf/shawl/shayla with an 'awning' already attached to it. (The 'awning' is the top front part of the shawl. It is made stiff to keep its shape)
The awning eases the positioning and the shaping of the shawl, as demonstrated in the slide show below.

How to wear Selendang Saudah or Saudah Shawl:

I have 2 types of Selendang Saudahs :

From Scratch - I buy materials for both the long scarf and the awning, and make it from scratch. Prices differ based on the cost of the materials. This type of Selendang Saudah are wide (70-75cm), therefore would provide proper 'coverage' for the discerning muslim woman. Length is usually 2meters, but can be shortened up to 1.75 meters upon request.

From Ready Made - I buy ready made long scarves and attach matching awnings to them. Again, prices differ based on the cost of materials. The width and length of the Saudah Shawl would depend largely on the width and length of the ready made scarves, which are usually 60-70cm wide and 1.6-1.7meters long.

Right Hand or Left Hand?

The Selendang Saudah are not sewn shut, therefore one size fits all.
You do have to find out, however, if you want your Selendang Saudah to be right handed or left handed.

Right handed Selendang Saudah has the longer part of the shawl on your right side and assuming your face is a clock, you would wrap it around your head anti-clockwise, with the shawl ending on your right side.
Left handed Selendang Saudah has the longer part of the shawl on your left side and assuming your face is a clock, you would wrap it around your head clockwise, with the shawl ending on your left side.
